Under the Bike4Work programme, entrepreneurs can get access to a bicycle on credit via 9 Saving and Credit Cooperations (Saccos) in Eastern Uganda. For this programme CooP-Africa is partnering with ORUDE. ORUDE has established Saccos in 9 villages in Eastern Uganda, where entrepreneurs can save and get business loans. From now on, rural entrepreneurs can also apply for a bicycle on credit via these Saccos.
“It is one thing to have a bicycle; it is another to maintain it”. CooP-Africa through its programmes ensures that all beneficiaries in a programme are trained in basic bicycle maintenance and repair skills. ORUDE ensured capacity building and training of its members on bicycle maintenance and repair in 6 of the 9 Saccos in the month of June 2012. The training was open to all members of the Saccos intending to apply for a bicycle-on-credit, but also to other members who were interested. The trainings were well visited: on average there were 30 participants per training.
