Women are the backbone of society in Africa. To empower the women in rural areas around Kisozi and Butagaya our partner organisations FABIO and HAU are giving out bicycles on credit to women. Women in the rural villages between Jinja and Kamuli can purchase a bicycle on loan and pay back their loan in installments. Most women are peasant farmers and do most of the hard labour in their gardens. With the bicycle they can improve the accessibility to their gardens so they don’t have to carry the heavy tools, water, etc. on their head or back. With the time saved on commuting between the garden and their house they can spent more time on selling their crops or engage in other income generating activities. Some women use their bicycle to transport goods to markets or shops in bigger villages or towns nearby. In this way, women can generate income and improve their livelihood with the help of their bicycle.
