The African partners of Cycling out of Poverty are united in the African Bicycle Network. The African Bicycle Network (ABN) made a video about cycling in Burkina Faso. During the ABN membership meeting in 2009 the members found out that there are big differences in bicycle cultures in different African countries. In some countries cycling is stigmatised as something for the poor. But in Burkina Faso many
people use bicycles. There are simultaneous initiatives to promote cycling, such as our partner organisation AVO who is making bicycle affordable by giving them out on credit, but for instance also the government who is putting in favourable policies for cyclists. The ABN members decided to make a short documentary about the bicycle culture in Burkina Faso as African example and lobby material for other African countries where cycling is less fashionable.
