Students in Uganda who received a bicycle via Cycling out of Poverty wrote essays about their bicycle. Some of the phrases from the essays: “It helped to save the life of my sister who was bitten by a snake and was rushed to the hospital by bicycle.” (Okia Charles, 17 years). “I use it for prestige for example when students see me with my bicycle they stop bullying and teasing me.” (Mukembo Joel, 16 years). “I no longer do punishments at school for being late which has also improved on my performance in class. And my bicycle helped me to save te money that I have been using for transport to school.” (Kokoi Melda, 19 years).
